ANYONE CAN INNOVATE, BUT NOT EVERYONE CAN

Anyone Can Innovate, But Not Everyone Can

http://www.bigstockphoto.com/image-41362450/stock-photo-business-people-and-metaphoric-obstacleYes, anyone can. But not everyone can. Here’s why…
It is very simple. First of all, to innovate, you need skill combined with will. The skills needed are very straight forward, to begin you need to identify a problem, understand it and then have access to people and information that can help you solve the problem.
And, that is just the beginning…
Anyone can identify problems, but not everyone has the patience and will to dig deeper, and keep going. And, not many cultivate an idea network which constantly feeds them ideas and insights, therefore not everyone has access to diverse knowledge sources to help them see beyond the obvious. Which is critical.
Also, just because you’re creative doesn’t mean anything. I know, and work with, creative people who have no discipline (there are exceptions). The ones who live in their dreams need a helping hand in making things happen. This is where will comes in. And, with will comes guts and daring.
This is where the bottleneck is. So you see, it isn’t as simple as asking everyone for ideas and them letting them roll with whatever is on their mind. Unless the culture exists, set by the leader, don’t expect anyone to take risks and experiment.
So what is a company to do?
You have two options:
1. Walk the talk. Easier said than done, but if you are an un-innovative traditional company (which most are), then you must provide your people with innovation skills. Heck, if you are the leader of the organization, set the example and get the skills with them. Be the example.
2. Get out of zombie mode. If you’re a company that started with an innovation, but has lost track, you need to go back to your roots. Most likely, business-as-usual has set in and your organization needs a reset to shake it out of zombie mode. Ask yourself: What is our reason for existing? Why do our customers value us? What difference are we making? If we started today, would we do it differently?
If we view value creation as critical, which you should, then innovation is the only way to achieve it. And, if you’ve been in zombie mode delivering more of the same, you need to do a 360′. The path to transformation is not for the faint of heart, it is a critical.
Warning signs are right in front of you
Companies, for the most part, treat new capabilities as nothing more than add-ons to the current structure. This is a warning sign, because to create new capability, such as innovation, you need to stop doing other things. You need to shed some skin. You need to lose some weight if you will.
The difference between new ventures and incumbents, is how they approach value creation. To the incumbent, value creation means getting more pay-off out of what they already have. To the new venture, it means either doing things better or differently than what currently exists. Of course, this path is not without its challenges.
The point: Anyone can innovate if they are willing to change their ways, but not everyone can because change isn’t a priority. It is something that happens, and most are more than comfortable waiting until they have to. Those with guts are bound for glory. Take the first step, shed some skin to make way for new capabilities. That is how you start the transformation.

A University Is A Social Enterprise, So Why Don’t They Act Like It?

A University Is A Social Enterprise, So Why Don’t They Act Like It?

Instead of focusing on making sure they’re preparing a wide range of students to make the world better, universities seem far more focused on making money.
I just got back from the Ashoka U Exchange, a truly awe-inspiring convergence of college and university students, faculty, and administrators from 30 countries. These universities are putting change-making at the center of their mission because they believe it’s the right thing to do and because in the age of free online courseware, Millennials are drawn to campuses where they can be part of a community that can prepare them for lives of purpose and meaning.
I got the chance to learn from and connect with amazing people like 21-year old Thiel fellow Eden FullMosaic solar CEO Billy Parish, New York Times Fixes journalist David Bornstein, Civic Ventures founder Marc Freedman, and former Obama deputy Henry De Sio, and to hear Bill Drayton himself speak to a small group of university leaders as part of the President’s Track.
But something has been bugging me:
A university, if you think about it, is one of the original social enterprises. It’s a publicly and philanthropically supported organization with missions for good in both research and teaching. Unlike charities, universities’ services are not free to the people they serve. In this, they resemble some of the newer breed of social enterprises like microfinance organizations, which lend money to the poor at interest--often quite high interest.
But universities by and large refuse to rigorously track their impact on their students: How many leave with degrees? Are they able to pay back their debt? Do they find good jobs in their chosen field? And they don’t want the government to impose metrics either.
Metrics may be THE defining characteristic of 21st-century social enterprise. In the absence of good honest metrics and accountability measures, a social entrepreneur risks drifting very far from her mission. For example, a central--if not the central--historical mission of the university as a social enterprise is to provide access to a higher education as a path to accomplishment for highly able people of all social backgrounds. Sure enough, in the absence of good metrics and accountability, colleges and universities collectively no longer contribute to social mobility in this country. The wealthiest universities with the largest endowments claim to give out financial aid at their discretion to counteract the effects of their stratospherically high tuition, but the vast over-representation of the richest kids at the most expensive institutions indicates that "need-blind" admissions isn’t doing its job. Fifty-four percent of the richest kids graduate; only 9% of the poorest kids do.
At Ashoka U, I listened to a private university president talk about how he was partnering with a nonprofit to allow his students to spend their entire freshman year doing good works in a developing-country village. They would then arrive on campus as sophomores and have three years to complete their degrees. My jaw dropped when he revealed that the university, which has little financial aid funding, plans to charge students the full regular $40,000 tuition for the privilege of digging wells in Africa, a sum to be split between the university and the nonprofit. This silver-plated charity scheme saves the college money, by arranging for paying students to spend less time on campus, and gives the college the marketing angle of being innovative and aligned with a social mission.
Charity begins at home. If a college can’t provide meaningful access to students regardless of income, either by radically lowering its upfront costs through the use of technology, shortening time to degree, increasing the flexibility of its programs, changing its recruiting, support and accreditation policies, or all of the above, then it shouldn’t call itself a changemaker.

Characteristics of Highly Creative People

There are a surprising number of blog posts about the characteristics of creative people. However, most of these seem to focus either on an idealized vision of an artist or the blog-writer’s idealized self-image! Here is my take on the characteristics of highly creative people. However, what I have done is looked at how creative people think -- based on my understanding of the latest research -- and applied it to behavior.
It is also worth bearing in mind that creativity is not all positive. There are good and bad creative people. Moreover, there seem to be some characteristics of creative people, such as dishonesty, that are not very nice. More controversially, some research has shown a correlation between creativity and mental illness. (The validity of this is contested, though.)
The characteristics of highly creative people are, I believe, the result of two specific behaviors of such people. Let's look at those behaviors and how they affect broader behavior.
Behavior One: Make More Use of Their Mental Raw Material
It seems that when highly creative people try to solve a problem or achieve a goal, particularly when the goal is related to their area of creative strength, they use much more of their brains than do ordinary people or, indeed, than even themselves when they are not focused on a creative task. If the average person is asked to draw a picture of a cat, she will most likely think about the physical appearance of a cat and replicate it as best she can with pen and paper. The creative artist, on the other hand, will think in much more depth. She'll think not only about the cat, but the placement of the cat; what the cat is doing; the lighting; the kind of lines to use and much more. She may decide to humanize the cat and give it emotions. Perhaps she'll decide to draw a sexy cat with a human body wearing an evening gown. Maybe she'll simply draw a blur representing a cat in motion.
By using much more of her brain to achieve her goal, the highly creative person, in effect, provides herself with more raw material from which to construct ideas than the average person. The average person thinks only about drawings of cats and the basic characteristics of cats. This limits the level of creativity she can achieve. The highly creative person thinks about much more -- all the while retaining some connection to cats. It is not surprising that, with so much raw material, she is able to be more creative in the realization of her ideas.
They Think Before They Act
It takes time to run through all that raw material in the brain. This is why creative people tend to think before they act. They play with the issue in their minds for a time, looking at a range of possibilities before choosing a direction. I see this when I work with creative people. When you give an average person a creative challenge, she tends immediately to try and come up with ideas. But because her mind is too focused on the issues of the challenge, her ideas are limited in scope as well. They are conventional, obvious ideas. The highly creative person, on the other hand, tends to turn the problem around in her head. She asks questions, thinks about it in various scenarios and brings seemingly unrelated information into her problem solving.
For example, if you ask an averagely creative person to come up with ideas for things you could do with a big box (for example, the kind of box a new washing machine might be packaged in), she will immediately think of boxes and their usual uses: storage, children's toys, perhaps protection against the elements.
A highly creative person would go further. She might think about using a box as a children's toy (as would most people), but she would also think about the kind of games children might play in a box. She might imagine climbing into the box and then wonder what it would be like. She might think about tearing apart the box and what to do with the pieces - perhaps use them for kindling for a fire or raw material for a sculpture. She might invert the box in her mind and climb on top of it. What would happen if she did that, she might wonder. All of these thoughts enable her to come up with many more ideas than the averagely creative person. But these thoughts all come from her mind. She is simply using more of her mind and its memories, thoughts and notions in order to construct ideas.
Incidentally, the highly creative person does not focus on her left brain or right brain for a simple reason: it's a myth. Creative people use a lot of their brains, not one hemisphere or the other!
Curiosity Is Creative Play
Highly creative people are often cited as being very curious. This fits with the way their brains work. Rather than simply collect information, their brains play with it. One person might see a horse standing in a field and think it is a magnificent looking animal. Another more curiously creative person might wonder what the horse thinks about all day in the field. She might wonder how the horse can cope for long hours of inactivity without a book to read. Or she might notice that the horse tends to hang out by the fence that borders another field where another horse resides. The creative person might wonder how two animals that do not have spoken or written language might bond and what kinds of friendships horses might have.
Spontaneous Ideas
It is by often asking these questions, wondering and being curious that creative people come up with spontaneous ideas. For instance, it is by asking what use could be made of not-very-sticky glue that some people discovered Post-Its. Pablo Picasso wondered how he could depict three-dimensional reality, as viewed from different perspectives, and came up with surrealism.
Behavior Two: Less Intellectual Regulation
The dorsolateral prefrontal region of the brain is responsible for, among other things, intellectual regulation. It includes the brain's censorship bureau: the bit of the brain that prevents us from saying or doing inappropriate things. It allows us to control impulses and to choose appropriate courses of behavior according to our circumstances. It seems that in highly creative people, this part of the brain becomes much less active during times of creation. This makes sense. If you can reduce the level of thought regulation when generating creative work (whether ideas, music, or artwork), then fewer ideas will be filtered out as inappropriate and more will be developed and shared.
In averagely creative people, on the other hand, the dorsolateral prefrontal region remains more active all the time. It filters out crazy thoughts; it prevents the person from saying, doing or even thinking too much about outrageous ideas. It ensures that averagely creative people think and behave conventionally. And for many people, this is preferred. Most people desire to fit into society and succeed according to existing rules. It is only creative misfits who want to succeed by doing things their own way—by ignoring convention, by having the audacity to believe they know better than convention.
For many people, this is a good thing. Sharing stupid ideas is embarrassing. People might laugh at the individual who shares seemingly stupid ideas. People might question her competence. Moreover, the averagely creative individual may wonder why she should bother with creative ideas when more conventional solutions work well enough. No one is going to be laughed at or reprimanded for coming up with a conventional idea that is in keeping with the norms of the local culture (whether it is society, a school or a workplace). On the other hand, sharing a radical idea that might be stupid could well result in ridicule. Acting on an idea that could fail miserably could get you in trouble.
In short, it is safer to be conventional and incremental in your creativity than it is to be unconventional and radical in your creativity –for most people. Highly creative people are different. Their brains are programmed to worry less about fitting in with conventions and staying within norms. It is not that highly creative people are not afraid of ridicule or criticism (indeed, many artists are highly sensitive). Rather, it never occurs to them that others might ridicule their ideas.
Creative People Are Not as Rebellious as You Think
This leads to the myth that creative people are rebellious. I do not believe this is entirely true. But whereas most people, thanks to their active dorsolateral prefrontal cortexes, regulate their thinking and behavior to fit with conventional behavior, creative people are not so handicapped. Instead, they follow their own rules or systems for evaluating ideas and deciding whether to move forward with those ideas. These rule systems are often logical, at least to the creative thinker. But, because they are not about conforming to social norms, it makes the creative thinker seem rebellious. An artist, for example, will not make a name for herself by studiously copying current trends. Rather, she will become famous by being unique. So, if she makes decisions based on what is commonplace, ordinary and conforming in the art world, she will never make a name for herself. However, if she purposely veers from what is popular in order to carve out her own, unique style –she may become famous. She may make a name for herself.
Creative People Are Logical
Another common fallacy about creative people is that they are not logical, that they are driven purely by feeling and emotion. I do not believe this is true. Rather, as noted, creative people are not handicapped by a need to conform to social norms. They are not compelled to be a part of popular culture. Rather, they are driven by a logic that suits their needs and is logical to them. That logic may be based in part on emotions and feelings -- especially in some artists. But it is a form of logic nevertheless. All people need to make decisions and decisions are based on some kind of logic. The creative artist is no exception. If anything, by not feeling compelled to fit the demands of popular culture, the creative artist needs to be even more logical than the average person who assumes that if everyone wears and buys a particular style jacket, then it is safe to buy and wear such a jacket.
Creative People Tend to Be Less Honest
Another apparent consequence of having a relaxed dorsolateral prefrontal region, combined with a brain that is adept at building ideas, appears to be a reduced need to be honest. Research by Francesca Gino and Dan Ariely confirms that, in general, highly creative people are less honest than averagely creative people. The reason for this seems to be that creative people can use their creativity to justify their actions in ways that less creative people cannot do. A lot of people, highly creative people as well as self-proclaimed creative people, will balk at this and claim that they are very honest. And it is true that they believe that. That is because their creativity is successful in convincing them that their behavior is justified.
Creative People Are Introverts, Extroverts, Collaborators, Independent, Big, Small, Fat, Skinny...
I have seen some bloggers claim that creative people are introverts; others that creative people are extroverts. I have heard that creative work better in groups and that they work better individually. However, I have never seen these assumptions supported in any way. The truth is, creativity seems to have little to do with how well one functions socially, one's weight (though I would assume that being in good health would help the brain function better) or other personal characteristics. The truth is, creative people come in all kinds of shapes, sizes, colors and personalities. What truly distinguishes them from others is that they use more of their brains to generate ideas -- which provides them with more raw material for building unique ideas -- and less of their brains to regulate the development and sharing of those unusual ideas.
What Do You Think?
What do you think? Is this a fair portrayal of the characteristics of creative people? If not, why not? Have I missed anything? I'd love for you to share your thoughts!

Current technological Assessment

Technology is a crucial element of life nowadays. We cannot run from technology when at same time we want facilitation and ease of life in needs. However, even now, we have tribes who don't have access to technology and live happily in their own way of life. This does not nevertheless means that technology isn't important to us. Such tribes are stuck with traditional norms and limit their opportune of growth. Let’s take a quick example! You have been given a right to enjoy the ease in work and an opportunity to go in the heights of advancement. If you reject to accept, are you not doing badly with yourself, why not benefit yourself?  It’s in fact a worrying state, because when you reject to accept technology in place, you not only de-challenge yourself but also indirectly hurts the chance of uplifting economy of your country. As with the general view; making yourself confront with advancements of technology, you make yourself more effective, efficient, creative at work, enabling you to innovation and improvement, making you competitive at global market and thus raising your national standard of work and allowing economy to flourish.

Coming to practical words, the unfortunate stands upfront that Pakistan lacks technological aspects either at work, education, trainings, daily use or any wide role of occupation. Taking the view in economical terms; How have it impacted our country? We have face losing economical activities and economic value in our country. Moreover, it has put us economically down across our neighboring countries. We share practical examples to spread the significance of need. India, next to our boarder, must be appreciated for making itself a revolutionized with all the coming times. Their education standard, economy, their operational activities and fairly better political stability is evident to the sound acceptance of advancements and technology with time. Let us notice recent news of adaption in India: beside the increasing Gold prices, the demand for gold jewelry had declined in the country. The jewelers found the new way to deal with issue. Rather to accept lower trading and lower profit margins, they have introduced the jewelry made from rotten iron and generated tremendous demand for it. Well this is quite interesting and a beautiful way to overcome. The results have kept up the fortunes to jewelers and also bless the consumers, the demand for rotten-iron jewelry have amazed the analysts and dealt interesting with the said matter. This is actually all about creativity, a habit to play with ideas with help of technology and   advancement. The principle behind such attractive ideas supports Think & Do. They have wide use of Internet common to all people which enables them to use benefit of it, wider access to customers, immediate adaption of products with changing demand and external issues, and at the same time lower of cost as online shopping does not require them to heavily invest in discretionary costs.

Similarly, use of technology enables the business heartily in resource management. European countries have enormously taken use of it. The corporate and commercial doings at Europe have taken full use of it. Europe and American are the countries who have taken globe in their hands through their technological remark and ongoing innovation. The reason for their lead is that they commonly believe in the use of technology in every of their matter, whether it’s about their grocery shopping or it’s about the management of their corporate deeds. They make timely use of these facilities and so are urged to make further improvements and advancement. If we critically observe the nature of their everyday activities, every individual is making use of technology
without any hesitation or divergence. The quality of their life, for this reason, is valued and increasing each single day. The education and operations are totally relying on the technology, thus making them well prepared for the coming digital and technological era. Let us consider the work of BBC and CNN, the very first word come out is brilliant! Now if we compare the two with other broadcasting Medias, they are leading among all and are simply considered as benchmark. Why it is so? Just because of the timely acknowledgement of technological assistance in their work processes, they have best communication channel setup nearly all across the world with any amazing utilization of technology. As a result the analysis which they give, the projections they cover, the knowledge they have and all other required elements to keep them at standard are perfect. All other counties are realizing the benefits of general use of technology and so are making efforts to absorb the essence today to benefit future. But unfortunately we are still hiding our faces from this essential element of coming time. We find all other ways to carry a work which requires least minimum use of advanced technology. At manufacturing companies, you will not be amazed to see the old manual processes to carry major portion of the process because the work doers are willingly carrying the tasks; resulting lacking export quality. You will still find resistance to change in work practices, why -- A big question -- Just because we fear from change! We just look at the negative side of work rather to make maximum benefit from it. In fact technology isn’t that bad; it does not create any harm in losing employment opportunities; as what is naturally thought, because technology is for all. It is not for some particle class of people or age group. Its unlimited advantages can serve the entire population provided every individual is ready to accept and transform him/herself to go with newer ways n advancement. Indeed it gives flexibility in your work status and it significantly contributes to uplift your creative skills; with the help of technology you can do what you think --- this is the benefit deliver through its virtuality! The acceptance of technology, say for setting up a virtual business, managing from online, gives you an ease for cost saving and at the same time promoting you at wider access to larger audience. Due to increasing advancements, major contributions are going in way to lower cost and access a wider range of customers. Now it’s about our target that how well we commit to go along with benefiting ourselves rather to compromise and keeping ourselves ok with old and incompatible practices.

It is true that world is becoming a corporate tool; significantly due to increasing technology and the impact it have on world. In this corporate world, unluckily, Pakistan is far away in this corporate race. We have almost absent postion in this corporate race; mainly because of unacceptance of technological assistance and use of its assistance in our corporate sector which as a result fails to meet the higher quality level of advancemnt. For a quick view, we can compare that still for meetings at corporate level or for particular training at executive level, we do not see the use of Webinar (Live meeting which takes place on web). There is lackiness in our crporate entities to take use of the blessings of virtual assistance which can sigificantly add value and allow enormous fortunes to the standard and effeciency criteria. Same lackness lies at workshops by training Industies conducted either for managemnt, workstaff, teachers, students, or at any other level. they lacks to incorporate advanced technology such  as advance multi media, online asssitance, or altogther it can be simpy said that technology-based training is minimum or nearly absent.

In Pakistan, we can proudly say that we do have a lot of potential and extensive work going in place. Let’s take the example of Gujranwala; amazing work of utensils manufacturing carrying out in heavy industries. The products are supplied to all across the country and exports too; but the inopportune fact is that traders still carry the dealing worth of lacs’ and millions in cash. Perhaps the dealers do not get satisfy until they see bundles of cash on their tables. How uncompetitive it is that when the digital point of time is so near, they do not welcome banking their cash; when in fact the use of online banking transaction was adopted by Europe years and years ago. We should continually analyze our position for coming digital time that where we‘ll actually stand if we even lack the habit of banking commonly. Beside the hard luck of deficient use of technology, it is also true that we misuse the blessing of technology and tools. In early 90’s, British introduced the red box “telephone booth” in Pakistan. It was fairly welcomed by people; they use it by the specific coin for its use and to talk. However the favor had not run for much long, people stole and broke the telephones which were placed in those telephone booth.
The topic of technology is though tough to end, its growing use and need for coming highly technological and extremly digital era requires us to get worry for our current states, and entail us to accept its use in extensive terms for us to secure our positions.

Making Transformation Easy

Making Transformation Easy

Health, Wealth and Wise
I have participated in a contest which is promising to give $100,000 to the individual who will win all his goals within 90 Days .Its interesting guys !!  I participated from 30th December  ,2012  .Interestingly, first week  gone by  but I couldn’t be able to achieve my Transformation Goal ……which I set  .Now I am in the second week , Transformation goal achievement is going to be very tough for me…... I realized one major obstacle in my goal achievement’s process …..Guess!!!        And this is the factor which I realized  is the most difficult  for people to  realize…………This is the major reason of Poverty , and  inhuman behavior  ……….
That’s     a single word …………….. Transformation …

"The man who can drive himself further once the effort gets painful is the man who will win." -- Roger Bannister
When the things get tough   , you started coming out of your comfort zone………Your comfort zone is where you are   residing  now…….where you are saying to yourself …….Its Okay  the way I am …I am following the
Path of my Bigs ……..but no one knows how  the Path of Bigs ……were !!! Out of Comfort zone or not…..Isn’t it?????????
So  the    Transformation   become easeful……….when we start believing in persistent change  in our lives……we  start saying ourselves  that I cant remain on my current level of  Life origin …….I have to change paradigm  …I am operating from my imagination …but …not from my memory!!!!!!!!
So we must believe that ….for getting rid of Bad habits……….and bad attitude ………we must realize ourselves which I am realizing myself at second week of my Transformation contest …that
“We can never free ourselves from habits. The human being is a creature of habit. But we can replace bad habits with good ones. We can trade in the habits of the amateur and the addict for the practice of the professional and the committed artist or entrepreneur.” – Steven Pressfield
So  we are deciding today …..from now to onward we are placing ourselves in  Skies  to absorb transformation  and making it easier for us in competitive changing business environment ……….where we have to compete with the people who are up to the mArk!!!!!

Happy New Year

We start out with good news here for you!!!

Good news; the New Year 2013 is pretty luckier for you… :) Yay!!!

Happy New Year <3

*Congratulations, you are now required to be following up with few notable suggestions which we are directing as below, for you to enjoy your lucky year and hence life ahead!
There had been countless arguments over the existence of luck; however, almost every individual, by some means, is grabbed in the mystery of luck, thus making the corner of their mind, potential, courage, power to succeed and all the rest being influenced by the assumption of luck. For which reason they cannot contribute to make their desire, passion and aims into to what they could actually do. I have found nearly every person to be stick by believing that there coming career, future, outcome of efforts etc are all base on luck.
On the coming of the New Year, I want to urge you to make your kind self assure that Luck is simply what you make of it. I give you a quick set where I am sharing, one out of many, the talking point from BBC News world Edition. Richard Wiseman has spent eight years investigating why some people appear to be consistently lucky or unlucky.
*The idea will help you to form idea that where the luck does actually comes from?
Richard concludes that: it is not intelligence or psychic ability, but a person's approach to life that matters for how he organizes himself for efforts and planning to reach to the desired level of success. He has devised four principles of luck.

1.     Expect good fortune; which he says is often a self-fulfilling prophecy.
2.     Maximize your chances of something good happening by creating, noticing and acting on opportunities,
3.     Listen to "gut feelings" and act on "hunches" about people or situations,
4.     Cope with bad luck and turn it around by imaging how things could have been worse, or looking at what could be done about the problem.

The whole thing is about looking at living in different ways. Almost all of us have special opportunities and special responsibilities. Life consists of what we do with them. Do not allow yourself to accept failure by accepting it as unlucky for you.  The point is that no one person is “luckier” than anyone else. Don’t be a sore loser. Prepare for what life throws at you.

If you want to change your luck, now's a good time of year to do it! A prosper 2013..
